Special Needs Staff Wanted for Vocational-Educational Program for 18-24 Year Olds

Camp Coleman is looking to hire 2 passionate, professional, and self-motivated staff who have previous training/experience working with individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities. We are specifically looking for individuals who have training/experience in Special Education. Previous experience working in Jewish camping and the URJ is a plus.

2 levels of staff roles will be filled based on level of training and experience.

Unit Head/Counselor: Captain and Quarterback of program of approximately 6 participants. Should ideally have a graduate degree in Special Education and previous significant experience with the target population. Unit Head will be responsible to assist Camp Coleman Directors in creation of program design and schedule. Unit Head will also be accountable for status of all participants—determining suitable jobs for them, monitoring their progress on their job, training all supervisors on how to effectively supervise participants. Monitor living quarters for to assure social and physical atmosphere is positive and appropriate. Create daily and weekly schedules for participants that include a full range of job duties, learning, social time, and interacting with all staff. Unit Head will be involved in ongoing staff training for working with staff/campers who have special needs. Responsible for working management of issues related to self-care, maintaining proper boundaries, and respect. Responsible for maintaining contact with participant parents to keep them updated on how the participant is adapting to camp life and Chadash program. Position will have a private bedroom and will likely live in same building where participants live.

Lead Counselor: Assistant to the Unit Head in program and participant management including all roles and tasks mentioned above. Lead Counselor should have some training and experience in related field and/or with target population and may be in the midst of their education. Supervised by Unit Head. Position will have a private bedroom and live in same building where participants live.
